Cataract removal surgery is not something we recommend for senior Boston Terriers because of post-surgery complications. However, with Rudy being so young and healthy it was worth a try. She has had a long course of testing and treatments for allergies and yeast related dermatitis (chronic Malassezia), external ear infections and multiple food allergies. She has required a long course of antifungals, antibiotics, antihistamines, immune modulators and medicated baths and topical treatments, with slow improvement over the past 6 months. Millie has definite improvement in quality of life, more energy and no constant itching, no raw skin less discomfort.
In July Millie developed a complicated ulcer and melting cornea. Her right eye was removed. She recovered from her eye surgery. She has adapted well to the monovision and is back loving her walks, riding in the car every chance she gets, and snuggling with her foster family. Millie’s care will be ongoing for the rest of her life.
Jaxson - October 2023 - 1 year old male from Boston Terrier Rescue of East Tennessee
Jacksonville, FL Animal Control was dispatched to pick up a dead dog. Only he was not dead! The officer rushed him back to the shelter where he was stabilized. BTR of East Tennessee was called in to help this pup. He had significant trauma to his face, eye, and jaw. It was not known if he had been hit by a car, attacked by dogs or if it was abuse. That didn’t matter to BTRETN. Since that moment Jaxson has had many surgeries to clean out and remove dead tissue and bone. He has had several abscesses the needed to be cleared. He has made a lot of progress but is not out of the woods yet. You can follow his story at BTR of East Tennessee-Fl Facebook page.
Jackson has several surgeries ahead to fix his jaw so that he can chew and eat with some normalcy. He is such a good boy!
